Two shows come on, Life at the Pond and Adventures in Odyssey. They dark out to make their own breakfast in between the shows, and are happily quiet in their room from 8-10am! And me....I sleep in, lazily! It's cute how much they LOVE listening to the shows. (We don't have a tv, but do watch some older shows online, on netflix w the kids....currently on season 6 or 7 of The Andy Griffith Show!)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5526768924178592295.post-61134769837604220262015-04-22T08:43:20.573-07:002015-04-22T08:43:20.573-07:00YES!!! Grandma said in the evenings when she was a girl they'd gather round the "isinglass" stove and watch that in the evenings! And now we watch the boob tube. A simple HF ham radio, with a solar panel, a small charge controller, a simple antenna, and a battery from a vehicle that doesn't run away. Any family can listen to AM commercial radio, if it's available; shortwave radio from around the world; and ham radio operators, also from around the world. If need be, this radio can also be used for transmitting. Imagine being able to know what's happening around the world, when the vast majority of people are in the dark. Food for thought.

Frank
Frank and Fernhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15570058990887565563noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5526768924178592295.post-48130072684064297922015-04-20T16:03:20.984-07:002015-04-20T16:03:20.984-07:00Jim, would you happen to have a link? I even have a pic of my brother and me in our pj's lying (laying?) on the floor listening to one of our mystery shows on a radio that looks quite a bit like the one in the picture. And while my mom didn't wear heels around the house, she did wear really cute house dresses.Adriennehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01562944653624224107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5526768924178592295.post-88771871131363535442015-04-20T13:43:55.799-07:002015-04-20T13:43:55.799-07:00I remember when we got our first stromburg-carlson...I remember when we got our first stromburg-carlson TV. I remember when my brother and I came home on the bus and saw a TV antenna peaking over the roof of the house. We said "it can't be can it? We ran the 100 yards to the front door and yes there it was! It had all of a 12" screen and we sat down and watched the lone ranger as my first TV show. I think I was about 8 or so. I think it is a little like reading a book instead of watching a movie. I like making the scene up in my head rather than having someone else just showing me the scene as he saw it. I ran across Sky King on you tube a year ago and could not believe how bad it was. I can remember loving that show as a boy but watching it now it is just very bad. stevenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5526768924178592295.post-78380717258863968082015-04-20T11:38:34.145-07:002015-04-20T11:38:34.145-07:00I agree and find it interesting that gathering aro...I agree and find it interesting that gathering around the radio is charming while gathering around the TV isn't. Perhaps if the TV had on an old show and was one of the older, furniture types of TVs I might give it more credit.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
