In-your-face stuff from an opinionated
rural north Idaho housewife.
I also would be in favor of a split, if it could be done peacefully. I would love to see the takers have to stand on their own two feet. I'm so tired of the whole entitlement mentality. I wish they would just split off and go do their own thing and leave the rest of us alone. Sigh...

We need a divorce.Montana Guy
Should it (separation) be based on Red States vs. Blue States then I think the Blue States would have a very hard time meeting their own needs. Take a look at the map. The great heartland of America with few exceptions is Red. Even more so when you look at the voting by county or parish. The givers and the takers indeed. Thank God for the electoral college instituted by our founding fathers! I hold no hope that with a Republican majority that things will change that much. Even though the country has seemed to want it. Our progressive bent is nearly cast in stone and it is hard to turn a mighty ship with the forces against it. Sometimes I do feel like we are on the Titanic with the small rudder and too long of a tear in the side of it. Maybe Montana Guy is right about a divorce. Just want to be where we can live free.
Read the book "Freehold" by Michael Z Williamson. Interesting contrast, similar to what you (correctly) describe here. Yes, we should allow the Left coast(s) to seccede. They will starve in less than 5 years, and will be broke before that. If they do secceede, we should wall them off as sooon as it happens though....so they stay on their side and when things go sour they can't come to our side and try to change it.....
Splitting the USA would result in a much less powerful military for the Red States, and therefore less power in the world. The Red States would lose most of their ports from which to service a navy. The Red States would also then have borders not protected by oceans, making invasion from the Blue States much easier. The Blue States would be split in two geographically, and the coasts would find themselves ripe for foreign conquest. This would make it easier for foreign countries to then attack the Red States. All in all the only chance we have is to push the Tenth Amendment rights of the states, and keep a single Federal government.
Not exactly true. Take another look. Texas and all of the SE US with the exception of Virginia (which we could offer as an exception) have many, many fine harbors and ports. Charleston, All of Florida ports, Mobile, New Orleans, etc. We would not be locked inland completely. I am guessing you are not from the south part of our country or you would have realized that.
I say let California setup their own nation. Then they would have to buy the power and water they currently get form the mountain statesJW M
If you look closely at the election maps, you will see how things need to be divided...not half and half, or even giving the idiots the coasts. The maps perfectly delineate the true division in our formerly great country - rural versus urban. We of the thinking persuasion just need to pitch in and help them wall themselves in their cities/suburbs faster. That is where they all cluster, so easy to keep them there (in prisons of their own making) - and they will even think its their own idea, making everything go smoothly(hehe). And it would be a great idea if we encouraged them continue to disarm themselves...just in case someday some of them realize just what they have done to themselves (hehe). If they quit bothering the rest of us, and trying to make us pay for their weird ideas and schemes, maybe sometimes we will sell them some of the food we grow here in rural areas! Then those of us out in flyover land could continue living the agrarian, self-reliant lifestyle seen as our greatest strength by our Founding Fathers...without all the leeches feeding off our lifeblood.PlantLady
The only man who can heal this nation is Jesus Christ. Plain and simple. Everyone is looking to the government to fix it. We need to look at ourselves. We need to repent as a nation and seek the good the true and the beautiful.
I have been arguing this for years. My analogy is a couple which is married but everyone can see that they are vastly unhappy with each other. Divorces can be bitter (Ethiopia) but not necessarily so (Czech Republic and Slovak Republic). Let us admit that we simply no longer share the same vision and move forward.
Save the Federal government? It is the most gangrenous limb of the USA. It triage time. The Liberty Movement has shown no will to take the offense like the Confederates did. Now Trump has come along and given patriots false hope. So we’ll let our fate be determined by others. Maybe waiting for chaos is the best idea. We’ll see.Montana Guy
Looks like California is leading the way. They have filed the paperwork needed to begin a secession campaign. http://m.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/nov/21/anti-trump-californians-launch-campaign-secede/
Good... Let them go. Nothing anyone else in this country needs to come from California that can't be found elsewhere. Another point from above comments. Heard that out of 5000 counties in the US only 300 voted for Hillary. So, let the 300 secede and see how they do. I think most would agree that they would fail rather quickly. Let them all be sanctuaries to the illegals. Rather don't care do you?
Like every great nation in history ours to will fall. If we are lucky enough to avoid being destroyed by a nuclear Russia or China we will be destroyed from within. We won't split in half or at least we won't without a nasty armed revolution/civil war. We will continue to do all the wrong things until we destroy ourselves. Or more likely we in our greed destroy or so weaken our defense that another country destroys us. I have no doubt that China Russia and radical muslims have infiltrated our government and critical industries and one day we will wake up and discover we are lost.
It seems to me that the left tries to make everyone toe their line, while the right is more along the lines of everyone toe their own line, but don't force me to toe yours.I notice that some progressives here in Seattle have just discovered the 10th amendment. The very same amendment that we were on the right were criticized for talking about. The two books "Looking Toward Eden" and "Eden's Dawn" are well worth the read as an example of such a split in the country.- Charlie
