Why businesses fail

Here's my WND column for this weekend, originally titled Why Businesses Fail.

  1. First the bad news, the federal government has killed the American Dream. That goose won’t be laying any more golden eggs. The good news is that they have not killed the entrepreneurial spirit that built America. Your daughter is proof of that!

History is quite clear that something(s) will arise from the ashes of this once-great country. OK, you fly a different flag. Heck, we still fly the CSA flag out of respect for those who fought against federal aggression (sound familiar?). We simply pray that our children will once again enjoy the blessings of liberty and a just government, free from tyranny.

  2. And then there's taxes. When I decided not to renew my business license, there were 17 taxes, licenses, fees, etc that I either had to pay, or find some legal way to avoid. They were trying to add two more at the time.

  3. After the fall of the Roman empire and before money was reintroduced to Medieval societies, the king and feudal lords extracted "food rent" from the people. Such rent was arbitrary and due before the family's sustenance was considered or their survival was considered. Kings and there retinue traveled about consuming the food rent due from their lords as the food didn't travel well.

Today, the government extracts, in addition to money taxes, "regulatory rent". Such regulatory rent is extracted before any consideration of the survival of the business. The bureaucrats travel about the land consuming the regulatory rent of fees and paperwork which is the sustenance for the government bureaucracy.

  4. I believe that there is nothing new under the sun...Look at the Roman Empire....It is a replay here....Nero parties while Rome burns....Insanity at it's finest level....It is here and what is going on with the "Caligula" atmosphere and the like, our great nation is no longer a great nation and is soon to fall, just like the Roman Empire....Prophecy is also winding down and the blank blank is going to hit the fan....Pray for those who don't know the Lord that they will turn their hearts to Him...

  5. I have always found it funny that when taxes go down tax revenues and employment numbers go up but that's never good enough for those living ON the taxes. When the Liberals drone on about how the 'rich are not paying their fair share' they never seem to point out that those 'rich' are reinvesting into their business that ultimately supports their employees and their families. Many also donate large amounts of money to charities but that too is seen as a tax dodge by liberals.

No wonder barter and the underground economy's are making such a resurgence. Crypto currencies like BitCoin and LiteCoin will also be a thorn in the governments efforts to bring the rich to heel since payments are processed without borders, boundaries or tracking.

I support entrepreneurs who do the things that I have not found a way to succeed at. As an employee all my life, I have admired the small business owners I have worked for and begrudge them nothing.

  6. And even when you do your best to comply, you can't. When I moved my quilt shop to a new location last year I filed the paperwork for a change of location address. Costs $5.00 to tell them where you are. And when my new license arrived, it had my old address listed as the place "where this document must be displayed at all times". Went on line to straighten it out and you guessed it - another $5.00. No thanks. So I figured they'll find me when they come looking - been in this area 60+ years and everybody knows where to find me!

  7. The purpose of government is much like the purpose of a parasite. It is to live off the host constantly taking more and more from the host until it kills the host. Governments (federal, state and local) get bigger and bigger, their employees make more and more (as a percentage of what we serfs make) and the taxes only go up with a constant threat of new taxes/fines/penalties. This will not end without either a revolution to start over again OR the whole thing falls apart (i.e. the government kills the host).

Right now there is the largest transfer of wealth in human history. Our government is actively destroying the middle class by confiscating it's wealth and redistributing it to illegal and legal immigrants and to the citizen welfare recipients. They are successful in doing this because long ago the divided and conquered us. Half of us vote for one party the other half votes for the other party and the people who actually elect our presidents and congressmen are the immigrants and welfare bums. In turn our politicians reward them for their vote with more and more free stuff. Your jobs are going overseas and your assets are being confiscated and given to the people who vote as they are told to vote.

    1. Or just get a refrigerated beverage case, sell energy drinks and chilled coffee drinks. It could work!
