The laughingstock of the world

A few days ago I saw a news article featuring some ads promoting Obamacare. Most of the ads were offensive enough; but there was one in particular that was so revolting, so disgusting, that I knew it would be featured in my next WND column, entitled The Laughingstock of the World.

Here's what the ad copy says:

The little asterisk leads to the fine print at the bottom of the ad, which says: "The Pill doesn’t protect you from STDs, condoms and common sense do that."

Folks, this is beyond unbelievable. This is a national embarrassment. No, a national humiliation.

Thanks, Obamacare.

  1. I thought this ad was a some kind of "joke." It's NOT a joke? This is a real ad? Seriously? This is seriously a real ad?

The copy reads badly: The asterisk line at the bottom is so unreadable with bad punctuation that I had to try three times before I understood it.

The layout is unoriginal and old fashioned --- YEAH that's right, Ms. or Mr. art director trying to be cool -- It's OLD!

Copying the "Got Milk?" is cheap and OLD!

And no one says "hot to trot" anymore. Gag.

Oh yeah, and the content is hurl-inducing.

    Just Me

  2. Just as feminism has reduced women to their lady parts, socialism has reduced individuals to a non-important cog.

    1. It may be a different story if they are YOUR lady parts and someone is telling you what to do with them.

Socialism has allowed women to have more freedom of choices when it comes to their own bodies than what some conservatives would care to allow.

This is usually due to a personal belief system in which they dutifully try to force everyone else to ingest.

    2. And the Liberals are not forcing there views on the conservatives ? Sorry, I know that I should not feed the trolls.

    3. As a conservative, I have the freedom to bed any man I care to. However, as a conservative and Christian I have the common sense and morals that keep me from following base instincts and thus have a much better life than if I slept around.

I am valuable...too valuable to toss my body, mind, and soul to just anyone. Lib/progs don't seem to value themselves the same way.

    4. Really happy for you.
Guess you are the only one with self worth.....(that good old self serving Christian attitude)...and I'm a Christian.

Beware of those who put people into groups to point out their own agendas.......propaganda thinking???

  3. Not just you anon,,,,"hurl inducing" says it all.

  4. Nothing liberal-progressives do anymore surprises me. If it's bad, disgusting, perverted, dishonest, dishonorable, hypocritical and especially anti-Christian, you can be certain it was created by liberal-progressives!

  5. This country is going to hell in a handbasket! Whatever happened to morals and values? If that ad is how our government promotes health insurance, woe to us all!

  6. I am reminded of scene from that old HBO series "Rome" Where one of the chieftains from an out lying province was insulting the Roman generals about how the Roman women would have sex with apes. Basically saying it reflected on all Romans that the women were whores.

The Roman general didn't care or even notice he just wanted money and was willing to arrange any entertainment the chieftain wanted to get it.

    It's a sign of a declining Empire.

  7. This is incredible. Without a moral citizenry we can not have a moral government. We are doomed as a nation. There are not enough people to find this ad wretched. So many think it is "fun" and "cool"...only way out of this steep downfall is by repentance of the people and the grace of God.

  8. "Pockets of greatness". We honestly believe they are the reason we were lead to The Redoubt.

Our Founders' America has been squandered. Only a fool would believe that DC can be fixed. Ridiculous you say? Google ‘Gomorrah’.

But we have so much hope every Sunday when we see all the children (almost all homeschooled). Wow. We can visualize them fitting right in with our Founders' families and way of life. Something will fill the void of this once-great nation. We pray that God will use our children for that purpose.
    Montana Guy

  9. Patrice I spent 21+ years proudly serving our country in the United States Navy. With the events of the last several years under this Obamamination of an administration I feel like I threw those years of my life away. Our country is an international embarrassment, a rogue regime that thinks nothing of civility, the rule of law or human morals. It has become folly being run by rank amateurs with seemingly devious intents. For the first time in my life I am ashamed to be a U.S. citizen...

  10. Can't disagree with any of the above comments and feminism has done women no favors but;
I sometimes wonder if a lot of this is about being American. We're all so hyper. Our lives, work, views on life, even religion. Subtle we are not. Society is also gotten very crude since the 60's. There might also be a young component in these adds we just don't understand. Has anyone watched SNL lately? It's just not funny - to me. The 20 somethings enjoy it. I don't get the jokes. I'm not the target audience just as I'm not the target of these adds.
So we should just realize we're just odies that live in worthless flyover states and leave the cool Obonga voters alone. They know what's best for us. Besides eventually poor lifestyle choices will catch up to them.

  11. It says what is sad about our country. Everyone seems to want instant gratification without the work that goes with it. (In this case the marriage; but it probably wouldn't last anyway. More's the pity.)

Everyone here pretty much says what I feel.
    And yes, it is disgusting.

  12. I agree that these adds are tasteless….but they are not from the Obama Administration.

I did further research and it appears that the government had nothing to do with providing funding for the “Colorado Consumer Health Initiative” who are the creators of these adds. They are a private party (with bad taste) and are funded strictly through private donations……NOT STATE or FEDERAL funding. It is hardly a fair assessment of Obamacare.

It doesn’t surprise me that Chelse Schilling found a piece of fodder and cherry picked it into an assumption that these articles were put out by the Obama Administration. She writes for WND which has a conservative slant on everything.

    1. And what is wrong with a conservative slant?

    2. I don't think there is enough time or space to comment.

    3. 'Conservation slant'? Oh, you mean like the Constitution which Obama took a sacred oath to “preserve, protect and defend”?
      Montana Guy

    4. Oh you really buy into that garbage?

At least if he makes a mistake and something happens beyond his control......he addresses it, apologizes and tries to correct it......unlike some previous presidents who lied and took us to our knees.

When you are not king of a country, you are but a small fraction of power that has to deal with it's problems...It's called Congress.

Obamacare is a huge undertaking which ultimately (when all the kinks are worked out) will be enjoyed by everyone for decades whose ultimate goal is to maybe turn it into a single payer program. But I know this is not your ambition either......but it is mine and I support it.

    5. AT Anon 10:55
Most people lay tasteless ads at the feet of the product being advertised. The ad clearly is promoting the ease with which birth control pills can be obtained (free) by ObamaCare. Whether or not ObamaCare wrote the ad is immaterial, since they obviously benefit from it, it is completely fair to lay it, with all lack of taste & dignity, at their feet. Last I checked, during any political campaign, any candidate is held "responsible" for their ads, tasteless or not. Nice that you did the research, but the buck still stops at Obamacare, because it is advertising their program. -M

    6. Nice try but you did not answer my question.
      Montana Guy

  13. most of the ads that I have seen aimed at the younger people are distasteful....I ignore them..but, what I have not ignored is stocking up on over the counter meds and even some prescription meds for the just in case the doo doo flies into the matter what, costs are going up and I sure don't want to find myself in an emergency room needing aspirin or something a little stronger for my aches and pains only to find that my insurance cancelled out on me or does not cover what I need without a major bank loan.

  14. Find the derivative (or natural herb) to the chemical prescription and grow it yourself. The country is too hooked on chemical prescription drugs anyway and tends to overdose the body on a regular basis.

If you look hard enough, there is a solution to most everything short of a broken bone.

  15. I thought this ad was a spoof too....then the horror set in. Not only is it demeans the women who struggled to get women the vote...Good heavens is S___ all women think about? Are we as smart thinking and voting women only concerned with the physical? Birth control is a CHOICE not a right! Whatever has happened to personal responsibility?

I am so worried about this countries future!

  16. If there is one thing I have learned in Bible study, one of the most the most important truths is that God is the final judge, not us. That being said, God also said we must live by his word, not ours. And I have not found immorality anywhere in Jesus' teachings or the Ten Commandments. Therefore, I do speak up.
This ad and most of secular TV, movies, etc. are an abomination. It's that simple.

  17. This is so bad that Planned Parenthood thought it was a spoof too - conservatives were "slut shaming." Sorry for the vulgarity, but that's what it's called.

  18. I guess they were short on ad space or the copy would read:

And if I like get knocked up it's really no biggie cuz obamacare will pay for my free abortion, too!

    A. McSp

  19. My friend says "liberals are so open minded their brains fell out"....sums up the problem nicely.

    1. Your "friend" sounds really mature......
It wasn't a "problem" for this country when "Liberals" liberated it from England. Liberals think outside the box and always have.

    2. Don't flatter yourself honey. Promoting debauchery is hardly thinking outside the box. The Romans have beaten you to it. Despite the similarity in spelling, Liberalism doesn't always equal liberty.

    3. First of all.....I am not your honey.

second: you are equating the liberty and freedom we fought for in this country to the Romans.

Can we stay on track here? Two different times with two different set of rules. You people turn being a liberal into a dirty word because you fall victim to conservative propaganda.

    4. This comment has been removed by the author.

    5. This comment has been removed by the author.

    6. Anon.
It wasn't liberals that fought the battles to "liberate" this country from England. They were very conservative in their religious and moral values. They would be shocked to see that the freedoms they bled and died for have been turned into a licence for sexual and moral debauchery.
We have not turned being a Liberal into a dirty word, Liberal progressives have done that all by themselves. Working to better the lives of people through reforms in working hours and conditions is an admirable pursuit, working to degrade all moral discernment into relativist nonsense is nothing short of decadence.
Only the simple minded think that because you have the "Freedom" to make a choice that the choice is a good one, or needs to be exercised.

I am interested in where you believe this conservative propaganda originates from? Is it, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN, Hollywood, the Obama administration, public schools, or Karl Marx? All of these institutions have one thing in common: an over aching bend towards progressive liberalism.
While you are correct in saying that these are different times, the rules are the same. People who have self-control and a code of conduct that values responsibility and Godliness, are still an increasingly rare and valuable commodity.

    7. Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Rush............I listen to all these guys all the time and it is my opinion after fact checking them on several levels, that they either cherry pick the truth, fabricate the truth or just blatantly lie about the truth with CONSISTANCY!

If anyone has a different point of view with Sean Hannity, he either interrupts them to the point of rudeness or cuts their mike. Half the time I have no idea what his rivals have even said. (fair and balanced? right!) Just his bedside manner alone should raise anyone's red flags.

A national survey was done to see who are the least informed about news in this country with regard to government and politics and the result was Fox News. THESE are the people that have turned the word liberal into a dirty word......because it sure hasn't been the liberals themselves. A country can only form an opinion by the information that they ingest.

If you were to fact check any of these guys, you will find they just fill in the blanks with their own opinions and interpretations on just about everything they talk about. It's truly unbelievable.

Conservatives are supposed to be against big government, yet they continue to take away women's rights to do as they wish with their own bodies. They just can't stop from micro managing everyone's life as they continuously try to shove their own religious beliefs down everyone's throat. Women's rights isn't the only area in which they do this.....but I won't get into that now.

This country was based on a person's individual rights and freedoms (no matter how they choose to live it) to live their life as they wish as long as it doesn't infringe upon the rights of others. I see conservatism as a threat to this very concept of life and the constitution we base it on.

Try watching FREE SPEECH TV for a change to get a truthful perspective on what is happening in this country. Half the Fox news people I talk to have never ever heard of "Fracking" or the "Keystone Pipeline" amongst other important issues. It never ceases to amaze me

    8. Ok, mr or ms's time to grow up! Become a responsible citizen. Facts,huh.... I know one thing. You wouldn't know a fact if it bit you in the ...... !

Freedoms we "vets" bought and paid for with our lives for YOU to spout your "nonsense".
Serious retraining of your mind is in order. But I digress.

I know also that for the most part, it's the conservatives families that have paid the price because they are the only ones that produce the ones who defend this country.

Of course, now with the emasculation of our armed forces.... "don't ask, don't tell repeal" maybe you're right. We can now hope for all their help that will defend us.

God have mercy on the USA!

A Proud Conservative, Gun toting Vet....

A new declaration of independence is soon to come Patriots!

    9. At last annual count 1,300,001 women had their babies sucked into sinks. Yea, women have come a long way to do as they wish with their bodies… but apparently not far enough.

So Anonymous, enlighten us. Tell readers, approximately how many women last year were denied the right to abort their baby?
      Montana Guy

    10. I don't deny "women's rights to do as they wish with their own bodies." I just wish they would stop trying to make me pay for their poor choices.

  20. Anon,
It seems a little disturbing that you listen to Hannity and Rush all the time and seem to think that they represent the thoughts of anyone seeking anything other than entertainment. I don't listen to them, or watch TV.
As for your supposed survey, I have read the same kind of survey that says exactly the opposite about conservatives.
The fact that you bring up abortion shows that you haven't got a clue about the origins of that issue. The founder of Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger was a proponent of eugenics and rabidly racist in her writings. Roe v Wade and the lies that brought it to the supreme court would make anything you are accusing Rush and Hannity of, seem minor in comparison. According to the ACLU, who represented Wade, the pregnancy in question was the result of rape. Not just your average rape, but gang rape. While in truth it was the result of consensual sex. Their whole strategy was based on lies. When the case got to the Supreme Court, Wade had already decided to have the child, which for that reason alone should have cased a dismissal of the case. In Blackmun's majority opinion his rantings are epic. There is not a single reference to American Jurisprudence or colonial law in his whole paper. To a Liberal worried about the future of the Constitution, that should cause you concern. There are references to the Greeks and ancient Assyrians though. Even Liberals realize that the precedence he set could be used to legally justify anything.
If you were a true liberal you would realize that the act of murdering an unborn child is of critical concern to essential liberty. What has been been done in this argument, is typical of the purveyors of genocide throughout the ages. They always seek to de-humanize their victims, and abortionists are no different. They arbitrarily declare that a human fetus is not human.

The right of the woman ends when she exercises her right to recreational sex. After that the right of the life she created takes precedence.

You might do well to realize that most LIBERALS are in fact utilitarians in their philosophy, which was proposed and defined by John Stuart Mill. Most conservatives are Kantian in their view. The two views will never be able to reconcile to each other. Utilitarianism is based on the pain pleasure principle. Essentially morality is decided by what gives the greatest pleasure to the majority of those affected. While Kant took a deontological view. There are absolutes that dictate action.
As for the Constitution, where was the intent of the founders to encourage immoral behavior? While all were not strictly Christian, they were well aware of the tendencies of humanity to use the public coffers to supply the want of the indolent. Why do you suppose they didn't allow every-man the vote? And no they didn't just disenfranchise women. They were well aware of what we now call the tendencies of humanity towards socialism. They were much closer to Kant than Mill.

I don't get my news from TV, I read.....I suggest you try it.

    1. Your assumptions about me are simply that…..assumptions……and how do you know how much I read? I pretty much disagree or question most everything you have said because it is so generalized….not to mention that I too would like to know where you get YOUR information. You throw out a few names and I’m supposed to know who these people are? (I’m really not interested in tracking them down)

I will address one thing though. The constitution never was about moral or immoral behavior. It was about equality, freedom of speech and FREEDOM OF RELIGION with a central government in place to provide checks and balances.

That meant that no longer could someone else press upon you their own religious beliefs of what they interpret to be moral or immoral.

I have my own opinions about very early and very late abortions, but I will never impede someone else’s right to make these decisions for themselves. It simply is NOT my call………and neither is it yours. This is what being in a free nation is all about…like it or not.

    2. I make no assumptions, I only responded to what you stated yourself. Further, I was very specific about what I said. If you have evidence to the contrary, please share it or specify where I was not specific.

What you have done is skirt the issues I raise by denying that they are there. Essentially the fallacy of poisoning the well without refuting my assertions. Classic Liberal deflection. What do you read?
Kant and Mill are both very well known philosophers who have shaped the way we think about reality. If they haven't shaped it, they have done a good job of defining the way people intrinsically view reality. What they make clear is that different people have radically different ways of deciding moral dilemmas. It's good to know the mechanisms for which we make choices.

    3. "That meant that no longer could someone else press upon you their own religious beliefs of what they interpret to be moral or immoral."

Exactly! So why are liberals forcing us to pay for things we consider to be immoral? You are only interested in the freedoms that push your liberal agenda. You ignore my freedom to practice my religious beliefs.

    4. Because everyone pays......whether they think it is immoral or not. That is how a free country operates.

You have the freedom of your own religious beliefs and that is exactly the freedom of what others have.

If you don't like something, tell your congressman and hope it gets up for a vote and maybe a majority will agree with you and it will become a law.....but short of is a freedom that we all share.

If you can't stand the heat....well....move to Bosnia.

  21. Anon,
Your ignorance is apalling, and shows how for from the truth and wisdom you have strayed. Since you are unfamiliar with Mill and Kant, I assume you know John Adams. Even if you only read the last paragrah of this the first part of the letter, you'll see how wrong you are.
If you assume that the government was not created to assure morality, why do we have laws that prohibit murder, prostitution, theft, public nudity, drug use, multiple marriage, force us to puchase health insurance, wear helmets on motorcycles, wear seat belt and act in a manner consistant with racial predjudice?

There is a big difference between it not being your and my call and veiwing the act of aborting children as a nornal practice. Americans now view it as normal, just like the Germans viewed their actions towards the Jew.
You and other liberals try to distance my Christain values from the public area yet at the same time us public funds to spread and inforce yours. You use the public school systen to spread secular values, you use my tax dollars enforce acceptance of homosexuality, to force people to rent to people whom the owner of the property doesn't want to for religious or personal reasons. Don't try the we don' t impose our values on others, line.

Message from John Adams to the Officers of the First Brigade of the Third Division of the Militia of Massacusetts
    John Adams
    October 11,
In this letter Adams declares point blank that, "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."
While our country remains untainted with the principles and manners which are now producing desolation in so many parts of the world; while she continues sincere, and incapable of insidious and impious policy, we shall have the strongest reason to rejoice in the local destination assigned us by Providence. But should the people of America once become capable of that deep simulation towards one another, and towards foreign nations, which assumes the language of justice and moderation while it is practising iniquity and extravagance, and displays I have received from Major-General Hull and Brigadier, General Walker your unanimous address from Lexington, animated with a martial spirit, and expressed with a military dignity becoming your character and the memorable plains on which it was adopted. in the most captivating manner the charming pictures of candor, frankness, and sincerity, while it is rioting in rapine and insolence, this country will be the most miserable habitation in the Nvorld; because we have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, • would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

  22. John Adams quote:

…….”this country will be the most miserable habitation in the world; because we have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion.”

These were ONLY the OPINIONS of John Adams…..not to be confused with what was actually written into the Constitution.

“Equality, Freedom of Speech and most important…. Religious Freedom.”
Good try……….It’s hard for some to let others be free….because when you start defining freedom, that’s when you start destroying it.
    Not your call, Jon.

    1. .”this country will be the most miserable habitation in the world; because we have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion.”

I really think you read this as Adams saying that the government should have no power over morality. What he is saying is that without an internal moral compass, that is defined by religious principles, only a totalitarian government will suffice, Seeing that the government they created was not a totalitarian dictatorship, people need the morality of religion.
We are headed to neither in or post-modern world.

    2. No......I read it as the government has no power to dictate personal morals.....period.

Adams is suggesting that the people need an internal moral compass.....but the constitution states that everyone has the right to the pursuit of happiness by however they define it. This is a choice, not a law.

  23. When you start defining freedom, that's when you start destroying it? Really? How would we defend something that we can not define? Sophmoric to say the least.
As for it being just the opinion of John Adams, good point! Unfortunately on that Atheist liberals missed when they instituted the separation of church and state doctrine that was found nowhere in the Constitution.
    It says:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Two things, it says Congress. Only congress. And it says, shall make no law prohibiting the free exercise thereof!
That means Christians can openly practice and advocate their faith in the public arena.
So where does the separation part come in? A letter from Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptist Church in 1802.
It would be good if your arguments were internally consistant, but alas, liberals are liars, so they forget their own lies.

Only my friends and family call me Jon, and you're neither.

    1. It never ceases to amaze me......

your writings always turn into either name calling or personal assaults. I find this with most conservatives.....but thank heavens not ALL of them.

      My arguments are pretty consistent.....again:
Equality, freedom of speech and religion. Documented, end of story.

And yes, there is that old grouping everyone together calling them "all liars". I only call someone a liar if there is solid evidence that they are.....and that is only on an individual basis. This is what fact checking is all about.

Even I don't think ALL conservatives are liars and there are some I really like. I think you do have good arguments, but you can drop the personal attacks.

    2. Two last things, then I am done. Where was there name calling? Or a personal assault? Are you so thin skinned that you can't tolerate my challenging your ideas without feeling personally attacked. Telling you that you are ignorant, and you are, is an observation not an attack. I personally am ignorant about many things and openly confess to it.
Secondly, why would someone with your "opinions" and bent spend time on this blog? This woman and her family have, as far as I can tell ,nothing in common with your perspective. If you are her for her folksy survival tips, you can find the same stuff at Mother Jones or maybe the Irregular Times website , which would suit you better. They all believe in "freedom" too. You don't actually defend your position with fact or logic, you only restate your prejudice with Ad hominems and the big lie technique. Example, your words:
"Don't take my word for it......just read the darn thing. It's not up for debate."

it is up for debate. There are three different ways to interpret the Constitution.
      1) plain meaning
      2) original intent
      3) as a living document
which one are you using? Because the meaning of the document will be vastly different to people who use the three different methods..
The plain meaning will be just that, without the historical context of the founders beliefs. Rather insipid really.

The original intent takes into consideration the zeitgeist of the times and the founders intent.

And for Liberals the living document is a way to transform this country into a socialist democracy by using an elastic approach to federal powers. The use words like democracy and freedom and equality, but mean things radically different from, what I suspect most people that read this blog believe.

Thanks for the entertainment, it has been inspiring...

  24. Let's just say it's not your call either "anon".... Just "your" interpretation of the founding documents. We really should define "freedom" for what it is. Your definition is closer to "license". An entirely different thing. Jon points this out and you seem to "obtuse" to see it.

I think you need to not just take the constitution verbatim but look at the ones who bled and died to make it so and their writings. Your "liberal" rants can not change history or what they said. Sorry, nice try again.

  25. I never said it was "my" fact I am saying it is "not" my call. This is the whole point!

I have no intentions of telling someone how to live their life and what to believe you????

It is ONLY because the constitution gives me that right. It gives the same right to you.

The bleeding and the dying?.......That is exactly what they did it for:
Equality, freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Don't take my word for it......just read the darn thing. It's not up for debate.

  26. Ill pay for my own birth control. That's fine. Then I shouldn't be forced to pay to feed the children you can't afford. Passing abortion bans, personhood amendments, and putting so many restrictions on abortion clinics so they have to shut down is a violation of women's rights. Face the facts, married couples use birth control too. Married couples want to limit the size of their families. Birth control doesn't promote promiscuity. Even people who consider themselves "Christians"
