I just got the snarkiest review on Amazon for The Simplicity Primer:
What a bunch of BLATHER. I bought this book based on the ten 5 star reviews; what kind of whacky weed are you all smoking? Here's some chapter headings: Be Humble, Don't Gossip, Be Polite, Love Your Spouse and the book goes on and on... As you get to the three hundred series it doesn't improve: Enjoy The Holidays, Keep Learning, Live Cheap, Be Creative and then it gets into "Radical Simplicity" !!! People writing reviews should not be allowed to practice their writing skills just to sound sophisticated. This book is a waste of paper.
It was Younger Daughter who found this review and read it out loud to me. Frankly I found it hilarious. I wasn't offended in the slightest, in part because it's pretty apparent that this reviewer Just Didn't Get It. That's fine. Can't please all of the people all of the time.
Makes you wonder what they were expecting. The sub-title should have given them a clue. I'm looking forward to reading it.
ReplyDeletecan you imagine the grouchy, miserable life that person must lead.
ReplyDeleteObviously someone with a closed mind (and one that will never improve).
ReplyDeleteYou can lead a student to knowledge, but you can't make them think.
Exactly what was this person expecting? A magic spell, a bottle of medicine or pill, or a computer program designed to make his/her life more simple? I just don't get THAT (meaning his comments).
ReplyDeleteOh how Liberals quickly reveal themselves. First was the obvious anger and unhappiness. And the classic giveaway, "people shouldn't be allowed" removed all doubt.
ReplyDeleteIt's a fantastic book - good, practical and down-to-earth info. I've already given a couple as gifts, and plan to order more as Christmas gifts. Probably the reviewer is a major complainer. In fact, I checked on Amazon and found he has 7 reviews, nothing above 3 stars except 5 stars for a gardening book that's out of print.

ReplyDeleteI think you meant 'please' in last sentence.

There are always those who "just don't get it". Wonder what they thought they would be getting??? The above commentor is correct; what a grumpy and unhappy life that person must lead!
ReplyDeleteHa! I just got notice that my copy from Amazon has shipped. Yay! I've read the excerpts so I know I'm gonna love it. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteI'd say their review was a waste of web space but I got a chuckle and so did you.
Some people just don't GET IT and they never will.
Jeeze. Another uplifting review from the 'I hate you but you're ugly' b-squad.
ReplyDeletePoor critter.

That "reviewer" probably never even read the book, just looked at the chapter headings. That was all s/he needed to form a blatantly liberal opinion.
ReplyDeleteI suppose s/he would have been happier if the chapters were "Be Arrogant", "Gossip Like Crazy", "Hate the Holidays", and "Disrespect Your Spouse." ALthough, I'm surprised s/he didn't like the chapter on "RADICAL Simplicity." LOL
Patrice, I have your book and it's a refreshing view of life. For those who live a simple life, it's an affirmation. For those who want to live a simple life, it's a guidebook. It's uplifting and encouraging, some people can't handle that.

DeleteThere are those in our society of citizens who
ReplyDeletelove misery and strife.
Of course, these persons who thrive on malicious
ideals and closed realities, will rebuke your
words and principles. They enjoy and are addicted to this malady of what they call "Life".
And they will also not buy your book.
Maybe, they would read a book review, but it would be for the sole purpose of spewing rotgut malice.
Take this as a twisted complement Patrice.
Stuck they are.
Your guiding principles by which you live your rich, fulfilling life and which you willingly share with others, are life's rancor to them.

I, too, went to Amazon and read this person's other reviews. It is very apparent this person is a miserable human being who criticizes everything and likes nothing. There was not one positive review, except for the gardening book, another responder mentioned. I, actually, went to the sellers to see if this person was a seller of the book. Since there are business names primarily listed one couldn't tell.
ReplyDeleteA liberal basher that uses the public forum to vent the anger that they hold inside. The criticism was not specific of your book, so it was apparent they simply wanted to bash it due to the Conservative viewpoint. How sad!
The complainer's list from the table of contents sounds like a list of things straight out of the Bible. I wonder what kind of review he would give the Good Book? What a drag it would be to go through life feeling like that. Well to each his own. Keep up the good work. Don
ReplyDeletei completely agree with Anonymous Patriot, USA who said:

my husband and i received our book only 2 days after i ordered it from your site - and we live in the middle of nowhere - that's how fast it shipped! i love that you signed it and wrote:
"Remember - in a complex world...simplicity is best"
you should know that we took that book down to our private river and swam and read through it together all summer. oh and dripped all over it - don't worry - it's holding up fine!
we really enjoyed laying in the sun and reading it to each other - most of the time shaking our heads in agreement with what we read - as an affirmation of what we already truly believed. i love your writing style and the straightforwardness of every subject covered.
we read the entire book 3 times through over the summer and plan to crack it out again in the evenings when we are cuddling on the couch during winter. we don't have a tv but we do have a ton of books that we re-read together regularly - including our bible.
i will be doing a post on my blog shortly about a re-cap of our days at the river...it will include shots of different books that we brought with us. yours is featured prominently in several of the shots. when i put up the post i will send you a link so that you can see your well-dripped on book being thoroughly enjoyed!
we thank you for writing such a lovely book that we will share with friends and family...a book that we will keep all of our lives.
thank you!
sincerely,
kymber
